The farmers in the surrounding community of Lafarge Iraq’s Bazian Cement Plant started to use accumulated rain water as a new watering source through the spring catchment and irrigation channel built by Lafarge Iraq. The project was proposed and shaped during the regular meetings with the local community representatives.

Plant’s community relations team worked out the planning and engineering phase of the project the cost of which was 32 KUSD. The project has been completed in three months including a water reservoir, irrigation channel of 306 Meters, and six branches of distribution valves with service main-halls, as well as leveling work of side roads.

During the construction of te water reservoir and channel, another side project was included in the frame due to need & request of the surrounding community that was the construction of a connection bridge and access road.

40 families based in the two local villages (“Hayasi” and “Cholmak”) located close to the Bazian Cement Plant will benefit from this comprehensive CSR project. It is considered as an income generation project which will have a positive impact to create a sustainable economic situation especially in agriculture section for the surrounding community.
